Minna Canth was a Finnish writer and social activist who began writing while managing her family's draper's shop and raising seven children as a widow. Her work focused on women's rights within a culture she viewed as restrictive to women's aspirations. She is known for plays such as The Worker's Wife and The Pastor's Family, as well as Anna Liisa, which has been adapted into films and operas. She became a controversial figure due to the contrast between her ideas and the norms of her time.
