Monique Wittig was a French author, philosopher, and feminist theorist who wrote about the abolition of the sex-class system and coined the phrase "heterosexual contract." She authored The Straight Mind and Other Essays and wrote the novel L'Opoponax, published in 1964. Her second novel, Les Guérillères, released in 1969, became a landmark text in the lesbian feminism canon. She was born in 1935 and died in 2003.
