Murray Bookchin was an American libertarian socialist, political and social philosopher, speaker, and writer. He was a pioneer in the ecology movement and the founder of the social ecology movement within libertarian socialist and ecological thought. Bookchin advocated for the decentralisation of society and developed the theory of libertarian municipalism, promoting grassroots democracy. He was a vocal critic of biocentric philosophies and biologically deterministic beliefs, and his critiques influenced debates within the American Green movement.
