Nikolaus Pevsner

Sir Nikolaus Pevsner was a German-born British historian who specialised in art and architecture. He is best known for his 46-volume series of county-by-county guides, The Buildings of England, and for his editorship of the Pelican History of Art. He worked as a scholar and writer throughout his career. He died in 1983.
