Olga Nawoja Tokarczuk was born on 29 January 1962 in Sulechów. She is a Polish writer, essayist, poet, and screenwriter, as well as a psychologist. She has received the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2018, becoming the first Polish female prose writer to receive the award. She also won the Man Booker International Prize in 2018 for her novel Bieguni, translated by Jennifer Croft. Tokarczuk has twice received the Polish Literary Award "Nike" for her novels Bieguni in 2008 and Księgi Jakubowe in 2015. Her works include Bieguni, Księgi Jakubowe, and Flights.
