Paul Fleischman is an author of books for young readers, born in Santa Monica, California. He is the son of the well-known children's novelist Sid Fleischman, whose books were read aloud to him by his father during their composition. Fleischman received a Newbery Honor citation for his 1982 book "Graven Images." His 1988 work "Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices" won the John Newbery Medal in 1989, making him the first son in history to win the award following his father, Sid Fleischman, who won in 1987.
