Paul Éluard, born Eugène Émile Paul Grindel (1895-1952), was a French poet and one of the founders of the Surrealist movement. In 1916 he adopted the name Paul Éluard, a matronymic from his maternal grandmother, and adhered to Dadaism before becoming a pillar of Surrealism, opening the way to artistic action politically committed to the Communist Party.
