Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) was an American writer who lived in China except for time spent being educated in the United States, at Randolph-Macon College and Cornell University. She taught at the University of Nanking and lived there during the 1930s. Her second published novel was The Good Earth; East Wind: West Wind appeared under the John Day imprint in 1930.
