Pedro Agerre, known as Axular, was a Basque priest and writer of the 17th century. His most significant work, Gero (Later), was published in 1643 and is considered an ascetic text written in elaborate prose. The work was created following the Basque witch trials, which took place between 1609 and 1613. He was born in 1556 and died in 1644.
