Peter Maas was an American journalist and author born on June 27, 1929, in New York City. He attended Duke University and had Dutch and Irish heritage. Maas is known for writing the biography of Frank Serpico, a New York City Police officer who exposed police corruption. He also wrote other works, including The Valachi Papers, King of the Gypsies, and Marie. Maas was married to Audrey Maas from 1962 until his death. He had a son, John-Michael Maas. He died on August 23, 2001, in New York City.
