Pierre Plantard de Saint-Clair was a French technical artist who lived from 1920 to 2000. He is best known for creating the Priory of Sion hoax, in which he claimed to be a male-line descendant of Dagobert II and the "Great Monarch" prophesied by Nostradamus. He was widely regarded in France as a con artist.
