Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite

1 standalone book

Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite, also known as Pseudo-Denys, was a Christian theologian and philosopher of the late 5th to early 6th century. He is credited with authoring the Corpus Areopagiticum, a collection of writings dated before 532. His surviving works include Divine Names, Mystical Theology, Celestial Hierarchy, Ecclesiastical Hierarchy, and various epistles. Some works, such as Theological Outlines, are no longer extant. The author identified himself as "Dionysos" in the corpus, leading to attribution to Dionysius the Areopagite, an Athenian convert of St. Paul mentioned in Acts 17:34. Scholars conclude that the writings were not authored by the first-century figure but by a fifth-century writer, leading to the designation "Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite."
