Rene Barjavel was a French writer, born in Nyons, France, the son of a baker, and lived from 1911 to 1985. He worked as a journalist, novelist, and screenwriter, published over 25 novels and several screenplays, became involved in science fiction in 1962, presented the grandfather paradox of time travel in Le Voyageur imprudent (1943), and won the Prix des libraires for La Nuit des temps (1968).
