Richard David Bach was an American writer known for his works of fiction and non-fiction, particularly those related to flight. His most famous books include Jonathan Livingston Seagull (1970) and Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah (1977), both of which became major bestsellers in the 1970s. Most of his books were semi-autobiographical, drawing on events from his life to convey his philosophical beliefs. Bach's writings often explored the idea that physical limitations and mortality are only appearances. He had a deep interest in aviation and frequently used flying as a metaphor in his work. He was also recognized as an American spiritual writer.
