Richard Brinsley Sheridan

Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751–1816) was an Anglo-Irish playwright, writer, and Whig politician who sat in the British House of Commons from 1780 to 1812. The owner of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, he wrote prominent plays including The Rivals and The School for Scandal, and his works are still frequently performed. He is credited on our catalog with Modern English Drama in the Harvard Classics series.
