Richard Dedekind

Julius Wilhelm Richard Dedekind was a German mathematician who made important contributions to number theory, abstract algebra, and the axiomatic foundations of arithmetic. He is best known for defining real numbers through the concept of a Dedekind cut. Dedekind also played a key role in the development of modern set theory and the philosophy of mathematics known as logicism. He was born in 1831 and died in 1916.
