Richard J. Herrnstein was an American psychologist at Harvard University, where he served as the Edgar Pierce Professor of Psychology. He conducted research in animal learning within the Skinnerian tradition and previously chaired the Harvard Department of Psychology. He co-authored The Bell Curve with Charles Murray and was a founder of the Society for Quantitative Analysis of Behavior. He was born in 1930 and died in 1994.
