Richard Russo, born on July 15, 1949, is an American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and teacher. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in Fiction in 2002 for his novel Empire Falls. His work often explores rural, small-town life in the Northeastern United States, with a focus on Maine, Pennsylvania, and Upstate New York. Several of his works have been adapted into television series and movies.
