Richard Sennett is the Centennial Professor of Sociology at the London School of Economics and University Professor of the Humanities at New York University. He has studied social ties in cities and the effects of urban living on individuals in the modern world. Sennett has been a Fellow of The Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and of the Royal Society of Literature. He is the founding director of the New York Institute for the Humanities and has received the Hegel Prize in 2006 and the Gerda Henkel Prize in 2008.
