Robert Brown was an English botanist, noted for his investigation into the impregnation of plants. He served as naturalist on HMS Investigator from 1801 to 1803, on its voyage to the Dutch East Indies and Australia, and was librarian to Sir Joseph Banks from 1810 to 1812, later working with the British Museum. He is also described as the Scottish botanist (1773–1858) who discovered the cell nucleus and Brownian Motion.
