Robert Norman Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He earned a B.A. in History from Fordham University in 1969 and an M.A. in Anthropology from Boston University in 1971. After studying to become a Jesuit priest, he decided to work with children, earning a Master of Education in Child Studies from Tufts University in 1973. In 1975, he moved to Canada and worked at the preschool at the University of Guelph in Ontario. He also taught in the Department of Family Studies at the university. While in Guelph, he began publishing stories he had created for children. His first book, Mud Puddle, was published in 1979. After his wife experienced two stillborn births, he wrote his most famous book, Love You Forever, published in 1986. He and his wife later adopted three children. In August 2008, Munsch suffered a stroke that affected his speech. He has written over 50 children's books. He is a Canadian children's writer who was born in the United States.
