Roméo Antonius Dallaire OC CMM GOQ MSC CD is a Canadian humanitarian, author, and retired senator and Canadian Forces lieutenant-general. He is best known for his role as force commander of UNAMIR, the United Nations peacekeeping force in Rwanda from 1993 to 1994. During this time, he attempted to prevent the genocide carried out by Hutu extremists against the Tutsi people and Hutu moderates. Dallaire has also written about his experiences, contributing to public understanding of the events in Rwanda. He has received numerous honors for his service and advocacy.
