S. Ansky was a Jewish author, playwright, and researcher of Jewish folklore who is best known for his play The Dybbuk and for writing Di Shvue, the anthem of the Jewish socialist Bund. He led the Jewish Ethnographic Expedition to the Pale of Settlement from 1912 to 1914. Ansky was born in 1863 and died in 1920.
