Serena Nanda is an American anthropologist and author who was born in New York City. She earned her PhD in anthropology from New York University and served as a professor emeritus at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She is known for her work on gender diversity, particularly her book Neither Man nor Woman: The Hijras of India, which received the Ruth Benedict Prize in 1990. She also co-authored two anthropology textbooks, Culture Counts: A Concise Introduction to Cultural Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology.
