Sir William Blackstone (10 July 1723 - 14 February 1780) was an English judge, jurist, and professor. He produced the historical and analytic treatise Commentaries on the Laws of England, published in four volumes from 1765 to 1769, which reportedly earned him £14,000 and remains an important source on classical views of common law.
