His work centered on the Pacific Northwest region, which he referred to as the "Far Corner," encompassing Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. He explored subjects such as the railroads, the timber industry, the Wobblies, and regional eccentrics, often portraying them with a focus on the everyday and the overlooked. A proponent of conservationism, he expressed concern that Oregon's increasing population would harm the state's natural environment.
