Sven Hassel (1917-2012) was the pen name of Danish-born Børge Willy Redsted Pedersen, known for his novels about German soldiers fighting in World War II. In Denmark he used the pen name Sven Hazel and is possibly the second bestselling Danish author after Hans Christian Andersen; he claimed to be a Wehrmacht veteran who fought at the Battle of Berlin in 1945, but investigations proved this false, revealing he was in fact a Danish criminal imprisoned in Denmark at the time and later gave false testimony leading to the arrest and imprisonment of innocent people.
