Tōson Shimazaki

Tōson Shimazaki was the pen-name of Haruki Shimazaki, a Japanese writer who was active during the Meiji, Taishō and early Shōwa periods. He began his career as a Romantic poet and later became a leading figure in Japanese Naturalism. His most popular work, the historical novel Before the Dawn, covers the fall of the Tokugawa shogunate. Shimazaki was born in 1872 and died in 1943.
