Theodor Fontane

1 standalone book

Theodor Fontane (1819–1898) was a German novelist and poet, regarded by many as the most important 19th-century German-language realist author. He turned to fiction late, publishing the first of the novels for which he is best known at age 58, after a career as a journalist. His novels often addressed subjects that were largely taboo in the polite society of his day, including marital infidelity, class differences, and suicide, and several have since been adapted for film or audio.
