Tom Godwin was an American science fiction author who was active from the 1950s into the 1970s. He published three novels and approximately thirty short stories during his career. He is best known for his 1954 short story "The Cold Equations," which was his fourth published work and is credited with helping to redefine the science fiction genre. Godwin was born in 1915 and died in 1980.
