Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was a Finland-Swedish author, novelist, comic strip author, painter, and illustrator, best known for the Moomin books. Brought up by artistic parents, she studied art from 1930 to 1938 in Helsinki, Stockholm, and Paris, and held her first solo art exhibition in 1943.
