Ueda Akinari (1734-1809) was a Japanese author, scholar, and waka poet, and a prominent literary figure in eighteenth-century Japan. An early writer in the yomihon genre, he is best known for his two masterpieces, Ugetsu Monogatari (Tales of Moonlight and Rain) and Harusame Monogatari, both central to the canon of Japanese literature.
