Virginia Lee Burton, also known as Virginia Demetrios, was an American illustrator and children's book author who lived from August 30, 1909, to October 15, 1968. She created and illustrated seven children's books, including Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel (1939) and The Little House (1943), which received the Caldecott Medal. She also illustrated six books written by other authors. Burton founded the textile collective Folly Cove Designers in Cape Ann, Massachusetts. The group had multiple museum exhibitions, and some of its members' works are now in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, the Cape Ann Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
