Wanda Hazel Gág (1893-1946) was an American artist and children's writer born in New Ulm, Minnesota, to a painter and photographer father. She became head of her household at 14 after her father died. She studied art in St. Paul and moved to New York, becoming known for lithographs, though today better known for children's books, especially Millions of Cats (1928), for which she received the Newbery Honor Award.
