Wang Shifu, a Chinese playwright of the Yuan dynasty, was born in 1250 in Dadu, the capital of the Yuan dynasty, and died in 1307. He was born into a noble family, with his father serving as a general under Genghis Khan. Wang began his career as a county official and was later promoted to the position of investigating censor in Shanxi Province. He eventually left official life and dedicated himself to literary creation.
