Waris Dirie

Waris Dirie is a Somali model, author, actress, and human rights activist. She served as a UN special ambassador against female genital mutilation from 1997 to 2003. She founded the Desert Flower Foundation in Vienna in 2002 and has received awards for her work in eradicating FGM, including the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 2007.
