Major Sir Wilfred Patrick Thesiger, CBE, DSO, FRAS, FRGS, was a British explorer and travel writer known for his detailed accounts of desert and marsh cultures. He is best known for his travel books Arabian Sands and The Marsh Arabs, which document his experiences in the Empty Quarter of Arabia and among the Marsh Arabs of Iraq. Thesiger donated his collection of 23,000 travel photographs to the Pitt Rivers Museum at Oxford. He was also known by the Arabic name Mubarak bin London, meaning "the blessed one from London.
