William Hill Brown (November 1765 – September 2, 1793) was an American novelist known for writing what is usually considered the first American novel, The Power of Sympathy (1789). He also authored a work titled "Harriot, or the Domestic Reconciliation" and contributed the serial essay "The Reformer" to Isaiah Thomas' Massachusetts Magazine. Brown's literary contributions are significant in the early history of American literature. He died in 1793.
