William R. Forstchen (born October 11, 1950) is an American historian and author. He is a Professor of History and Faculty Fellow at Montreat College in Montreat, North Carolina. He earned his doctorate from Purdue University. Forstchen has written and published numerous novels and non-fiction works focused on military history, alternative history, thrillers, and speculative events. He co-authored three alternate history novels about the Civil War with politician Newt Gingrich, and two of these also involved writer Albert S. Hanser. Additionally, he and Gingrich, along with Hanser, wrote three novels about General George Washington during the American Revolutionary War.
