William Still

William Still was an African-American abolitionist based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a conductor on the Underground Railroad who aided at least 649 people escaping slavery. He was also a businessman, writer, historian and civil rights activist, and served as chairman of the Vigilance Committee of the Pennsylvania Anti-Slavery Society. He kept detailed records of those he assisted, in part to help separated families reunite.
