Winston Groom (1943–2020) was an American author, best known for his 1986 novel Forrest Gump, which became a cultural phenomenon after its film adaptation directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks. Following the film's success, the novel sold more than a million copies worldwide, and Groom wrote a sequel, Gump & Co. (1995). His final novel was El Paso (2016).
