Valerian Petrovich Pidmohylny was a Ukrainian writer and translator, one of the most significant prose writers of the Ukrainian "executed renaissance." He was born on 2 February 1901 and died on 3 November 1937. Pidmohylny is best known for his realist novel Misto (The City). He was active during the 1920s in Ukraine but was later arrested by Soviet authorities. He was a victim of Stalinist repressions.
