Haruichi Furudate is a Japanese manga artist born on March 7, 1983, in Karumai, Iwate. After high school, he attended Sendai Design Training School in Miyagi Prefecture. In 2008, he wrote the one-shot King Kid, which won an honorable mention for the Jump Treasure Newcomer Manga Prize. In 2010, he launched his first full series, Philosophy School, Yotsuya Sensei's Ghost Stories, in Weekly Shōnen Jump. In 2011, he wrote two one-shots for Jump NEXT! and Weekly Shōnen Jump, which led to the full series Haikyu!!, beginning serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump on February 20, 2012. The series concluded on July 20, 2020. Haikyu!! received the 61st Shogakukan Manga Award in the shōnen category and was ranked in the top three for the 2015 Sugoi Japan Award. It was among the top five best-selling manga in Japan in 2020, with over seven million copies sold. The series has also been adapted into an anime and a stage play.
