Ivan Franko was a Ukrainian poet and writer who lived from 1856 to 1916. He was also a writer, social and literary critic, journalist, translator, economist, political activist, and ethnographer. Franko authored the first detective novels and modern poetry in Ukrainian. He held a PhD and contributed significantly to Ukrainian literature and culture.
