Yuan Huang, born with the name "Biao," had the style names "Kunyi" and "Xuehai," and later adopted the pseudonym "Liaofan." He was from Wujiang County in the Nanzhili Suzhou Prefecture, during the Ming Dynasty. He later moved to Jiaxiang County in Jiaxing Prefecture, which is now known as Jiashan City. Yuan Huang was a scholar-official who passed the imperial examination during the reign of the Ming Emperor Shenzong and held the positions of chief officer and advisor. He was a Buddhist believer and, at the age of 69, wrote the famous ethical treatise "Yin Zhu Lu," based on his life experiences.
