Yuan Zhen

Yuan Zhen, courtesy name Weizhi, was a Chinese novelist, poet, and politician of the middle Tang dynasty. He is particularly known for his work Yingying's Biography, which has often been adapted for other treatments, including operatic and musical ones. He was part of the "New Yuefu" poetic group and was involved in a poetic circle that included Bai Juyi. Yuan Zhen died in 831.
