Liu Zhiji, courtesy name Zixuan, was a Chinese historian and politician of the Tang dynasty. He was born in present-day Xuzhou, Jiangsu, and was the son of Liu Zangqi and the brother of Liu Zhirou, both officials known for their literary works. He obtained his imperial examination degree in 680 and participated in court compilations in 699. He is best known as the author of Shitong, a historical work he began compiling in 708.
