About “A Dry White Season”
A Dry White Season is a 1979 novel by Afrikaner author André Brink. It centers on the death of a man while in detention, who was wrongly suspected of being a black activist. The story explores the shift of a member of the ruling white class from indifference to opposition against apartheid. The novel was inspired by a line from a poem by Mongane Wally Serote. It was banned in South Africa, but Brink managed to distribute 3,000 copies through an underground press.
