The third novel in Karin Slaughter's Grant County series, this 2003 book finds Sara Linton, medical examiner in Heartsdale, Georgia, called to an apparent suicide on the local college campus that yields few clues, while college authorities try to avoid scandal. Two more suspicious suicides follow, and a young woman is brutally attacked, drawing Sara and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver into an investigation involving ex-detective Lena Adams.
