A History of the Theories of Aether and Electricity is a series of books written by British mathematician Sir Edmund Taylor Whittaker. The first edition, published in 1910, covers the development of classical electromagnetism, optics, and aether theories from the Age of Descartes to the close of the nineteenth century. A second, expanded edition was released in the early 1950s by Thomas Nelson. The first volume, published in 1951, revised and updated the earlier work. The second volume, published in 1953, extended the coverage to include the years 1900 to 1926.
